Museum, Chronicle, Nomenclature and Heraldry Committee (11 members)
I. Initiative Function
Museum and Chronicle Section:
- Provides opinions on conceptual and current matters of museology and cultural heritage protection in the City of Ostrava, including projects in these areas; may act as an initiator or co-creator of projects, proposals, and statements. Comments on proposals for declaring cultural monuments within the city. Participates in the promotion and popularization of museology and heritage protection in the city. Provides opinions on the allocation of financial contributions for projects in museology and the preservation and restoration of cultural monuments.Provides opinions on spatial documentation.
- Oversees the content and formal correctness of entries in the Ostrava City Chronicle and contributes to the preparation of the annual chronology – Ostrava Calendar.
- Comments on applications for contributions under the urban monument zone regeneration program.
Nomenclature Section:
- Discusses proposals from city districts for naming districts, parts of districts, streets, and other public spaces; prepares opinions for discussion in city bodies; communicates its opinions to district mayors.
- Provides opinions on cadastral office proposals for renaming cadastral areas.
- Prepares nomenclature systems for naming new streets and public spaces and for renaming existing ones.
- Evaluates names of districts, parts of districts, cadastral areas, streets, and public spaces from social, cultural, and historical perspectives to ensure correctness, linguistic clarity, and ease of citizen orientation.
- Identifies and addresses changes in the street system (duplicate, unnamed, or defunct streets).
- Informs the City Council on how districts implement council-mandated tasks regarding street and public space signage.
- Submits initiatives and proposals to the City Council on its own initiative if needed.
Heraldry Section:
- Consults proposals from city districts regarding changes to the district coat of arms and flag and prepares opinions for discussion in city bodies.
II. Supervisory Function
- Within the scope defined by the City Council.
III. Organizational Matters
Organizational, technical, and administrative work related to the committee’s activities is provided by the Urban Planning and Building Regulations Department of the City Hall.
