Environment Committee (11 members)

I. Initiative Function

  1. initiates, monitors, and evaluates the implementation of key measures of the Statutory City of Ostrava in the field of environmental protection,
  2. provides opinions on the city budget proposal, particularly on funds allocated for improving the state of the environment in the city, and submits proposals for including specific projects and programs in the budget of the Statutory City of Ostrava,
  3. assesses the level of air, water, and soil pollution, as well as the state of waste production and other components of the environment,
  4. cooperates with the Environmental Committee of the Moravian-Silesian Region, particularly on issues that extend beyond the boundaries of the City of Ostrava,
  5. reviews proposals for the use of funds from the Environmental Fund of the City of Ostrava and the Fund for Children Endangered by Air Pollution,
  6. organizes and conducts field meetings in major industrial enterprises in the city and in locations problematic from the perspective of environmental protection,
  7. reviews conceptual materials of the city related to environmental protection,
  8. reviews regional conceptual materials related to the environment of the City of Ostrava,
  9. reviews proposals for generally binding municipal ordinances and their amendments related to environmental protection,
  10. addresses issues related to public access to environmental information, the promotion of environmental protection (including environmental education), and citizens’ suggestions and complaints when requested to provide an opinion.

II. Supervisory Function

  1. within the scope determined by the City Council

III. Organizational Matters

Organizational, technical, and administrative tasks related to the activities of the committee are ensured by the Department of Environmental Protection of the City Hall.
