Department responsible for:

1. Grants in the field of sport and physical education, specifically:

• Programme for the Support of Physical Education and Sport in the Territory of the Statutory City of Ostrava
• Programme for the Support of Major Sports Clubs in the Territory of the Statutory City of Ostrava
• Programme for the Support of Sports Events in the Territory of the Statutory City of Ostrava
• Programme for the Support of Sports Infrastructure – construction, reconstruction, and repairs in the Territory of the Statutory City of Ostrava

2. Ensures support for major city events in the field of sport, including possible participation.

3. Organizes the SPORTS PERSON OF THE YEAR poll, the aim of which is to recognize outstanding sporting achievements of the previous year, and to support and promote the most successful athletes and sporting activities in the City of Ostrava.

4. Prepares the Strategic Plan of the City of Ostrava for Sport for the period 2017–2025, which captures the state of sports infrastructure, an overview of sports clubs and their facilities, and sports financing systems, and defines measures leading to the improvement of the sports environment within the statutory city of Ostrava. This is implemented through the Action Plan for the implementation of the goals and measures of the Strategic Plan, which is updated annually or as needed.

5. Ensures the founder’s (establishing authority’s) functions for organizations in the field of sport, namely the municipal companies Sportovní a rekreační zařízení města Ostravy, s.r.o. (SAREZA) and VÍTKOVICE ARÉNA, a.s.

6. Ensures the operation of the information portal in the field of sport in Ostrava, namely www.fajnovysport.cz, as well as its Facebook and Instagram profiles.

7. Provides marketing support for sport in Ostrava through press releases, web portals, social media, conferences, seminars, and other activities.

 
8. In accordance with applicable legislation, the Department of Sports further:

• creates conditions and concepts in the field of physical education and sport;
• manages inter-institutional and interdisciplinary cooperation in the preparation of the Strategic Plan for Sport of the City of Ostrava and its finalization, in connection with the comprehensive Strategic Development Plan of the City of Ostrava in areas such as infrastructure and assets, children and youth, sport for all, elite sport, economy, marketing, communication and PR, territorial aspects, events, and local, regional, and international cooperation;
• prepares and participates in the management of investment projects related to sports and physical education facilities and public sports grounds in the Statutory City of Ostrava, including both its own projects and those submitted by sports organizations and city districts, and monitors the use of grants and other earmarked budget funds;
• prepares opinions, proposals, statements, and materials related to sport and youth for advisory and elected bodies of the City of Ostrava;
• maintains contact with sports, physical education, and interest-based organizations operating in the territory of the Statutory City of Ostrava;
• monitors the development of talented youth, especially in Sports Centres (SpS) and Youth Sports Centres (SCM), and tracks the development of physical education and sport in primary schools and schools with a special focus on physical education;
  develops relations with partner cities in the field of sport;
• monitors European projects in the field of sport and ensures cooperation on them;
  is responsible for the preparation of the National Olympic Centre project and the Elite Sports Centre;
• cooperates in the preparation of major international sporting events and coordinates the involvement of companies of the City of Ostrava in their organization;
• Performs inspections of the delegated competencies of city districts;
• cooperates with other stakeholders in the field of sport.
