2025
November 2025
- The statutory city of Ostrava invited a delegation from its partner city Košice, led by Deputy Mayor Mgr. Lucia Gurbaľová, to participate in a professional conference entitled "Desegregation in Education: Together for Equal Opportunities," which took place at the Korunka Leisure Center in Ostrava. The aim of the conference was to open up space for sharing experiences, approaches, and good practices in the field of inclusive education and desegregation.

- The second annual Emil Zátopek Ostrava Golden Marathon 2025 was held in Ostrava, where representatives from our partner cities Košice, Katowice, and Miskolc were invited to join our city in the V4 marathon relay. The event took place with the participation of Mayor Mgr. Jan Dohnal and Deputy Mayor Mgr. Dagmar Macháčková, MPA.
September 2025
- The visit of the 6-member delegation from Dnipro, led by Mayor Borys Filatov, focused on the development of cooperation in the areas of humanitarian aid, culture, and social issues. The main topic of the meeting with Mayor Borys Filatov was the possibility of organizing summer camps for children from Dnipro affected by the war. The delegation toured the Lower Vítkovice Area, the Janáček Conservatory, the Reuse Centre, and the Ostrava-Hrabová industrial zone. As part of cultural cooperation, discussions focused on the participation of artists from Dnipro in the Colours of Ostrava festival and the possible invitation of Mayor Filatov to the Melting Pot conference. Further talks focused on the social situation of seniors in Dnipro, drug prevention, and the sharing of experiences in urban development and the visual identity of Ostrava.
- At the invitation of the Mayor of the partner city of Katowice, Mr. Marcin Krupa, the Mayor of Ostrava, Mgr. Jan Dohnal, and the Deputy Mayor, Ing. Břetislav Riger, attended the New Mobility Congress in Katowice. The city of Katowice was a co-organizer of this event, which, once associated with heavy industry and mining, today it radiates green energy and surprises with its modernity. The 6th New Mobility Congress (KNM – New Mobility Congress) was the largest event dedicated to sustainable transport in Central and Eastern Europe.
- At the invitation of the Mayor of the partner city of Katowice, Mr. Marcin Krupa, the Deputy Mayor Ing. Břetislav Riger, attended the celebrations of the "160th anniversary of Katowice being granted city rights." This special event also included a ceremonial meeting of the Katowice City Council, which took place on September 11, 2025.
- The joint cycling trip for cyclists from Ostrava and Katowice, titled "KATOWICE – OSTRAVA BY BIKE 2025," is organized as part of the partnership cooperation between the cities of Ostrava and Katowice. The aim of the event is to support the partnership between the cities of Katowice and Ostrava through active promotion of physical culture, popularization of sports activities, and, among other things, the promotion of alternative transportation options that are environmentally friendly and also have positive effect on physical fitness and health.
August 2025
- As a prelude to the celebrations of the 30th anniversary of the renewal of the partnership between Ostrava and Dresden, 8 long-distance runners from the MK Seitl Ostrava club started on Friday, August 15, from Prokeš Square in front of the New City Hall. They set off on a 500-kilometer relay run to the partner city of Dresden, Germany. The runners were supported by two accompanying vehicles from the Ostrava City Council, which organized the entire event.
- On the same day in Dresden, an "anniversary" meeting of the mayors of both partner cities took place. The Mayor of Ostrava, Jan Dohnal, was welcomed in the Saxon capital by the Mayor of Dresden, Dirk Hilbert. He also accompanied the Czech delegation for two days, guiding them through this historic city, which was once the residence of Saxon electors and kings. All of this took place in the pleasant atmosphere of the Canaletto cultural open-air festival, one of the most popular events of its kind in Germany.

- At the invitation of the Mayor of the partner city of Katowice, Mr. Marcin Krupa, the Deputy Mayor Mgr. Andrea Hoffmannová, Ph.D., attended the 5th annual international event "Festival of Partner Cities," which took place in the partner city of Katowice. The statutory city of Ostrava presented the project "Fajne školní bistro!!!" at the festival. This year’s edition was called "Bread Unites Us" and was attended by the partner cities of Katowice: Cologne (Germany), Košice (Slovakia), Miskolc (Hungary), Pula (Croatia), St. Etienne (France), Opava, and Ostrava.
- The statutory city of Ostrava welcomed the drama theatre from the partner city of Dnipro. In a unique performance, actors and students from the VIRIMO! drama theatre of Dnipro staged the play "The White Disease" by Karel Čapek at the Antonín Dvořák Theatre. The play was performed in Ukrainian with Czech subtitles.
- A football tournament, the Saxony Cup Dresden, took place in the partner city of Dresden, with the participation of two junior clubs from FC Baník.
May 2025
- At the invitation of the Mayor of the partner city of Split, the Ostrava delegation, led by Mgr. Dagmar Macháčková, MPA, attended the celebrations held in honor of Split's City Day, an annual event commemorating St. Dominic, the founder of Split.
April 2025
- The statutory city of Ostrava received an invitation to participate in the 10-member relay race at the international event "Ultramarathon Miskolc – Košice 2025." The relay team included runners from the Ostrava City Hall and the Ostrava Municipal Police. In the 10-member relay race, the Ostrava team finished in 2nd place.
- The Fairy Tale Festival – in 2025, the 9th international event took place. Each year, around 400 children from Ostrava's kindergartens participate in the festival, where they watch films related to a specific theme – this year, the theme was "The Kingdom of Water." Workshops were also held, allowing children to create various items related to the theme. A part of the event was the announcement of the results of an art competition in five age categories on the theme "Portrait." The event concluded on April 25, 2025, with a festive award ceremony, attended by the winners and guests from the partner city of Katowice.

- The partner city of Košice organized the traditional event "Meeting of V4 Partner Cities," with representatives from the cities of Katowice, Košice, Miskolc, and Ostrava. The statutory city of Ostrava was represented at the official opening and working meeting by Mgr. Dagmar Macháčková, MPA, Deputy Mayor, and Ing. Ivona Vaňková, Deputy Mayor of the Slezská Ostrava district. The city of Ostrava will host the next "Meeting of V4 Partner Cities" in September 2026, and on this occasion, Dagmar Macháčková, MPA, Deputy Mayor, received the traveling trophy from Košice’s Deputy Mayor, Ms. Lucie Gurbáľová.
February 2025
- The Office of the Mayor welcomed a delegation from our partner city of Dnipro. The representatives of the city met with representatives of various municipal organizations (MAPPA, PLATO, the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre, the museum) and the leadership of several Ostrava festivals, aiming to establish cooperation in the field of culture. On March 3, 2025, the delegation was hosted by the Mayor of Ostrava, Jan Dohnal, at the New City Hall. The Mayor discussed with representatives of the partner city opportunities for cooperation in education, culture, and business opportunities for Czech companies in Ukraine. Following the meeting, the Mayor, together with the head of the culture department from Dnipro, opened a photographic exhibition about Dnipro, which ran until the end of March.
- At the invitation of the Mayor of the partner city of Katowice, Mr. Marcin Krupa, the Mayor of Ostrava, Mgr. Jan Dohnal, attended the "New Year’s Concert" at the NOSPR concert hall in Katowice. The purpose of this foreign business trip was to meet with representatives from the partner cities of Katowice. Along with Ostrava, the partner cities of Miskolc and Košice also participated in this meeting.

- The first annual international marathon Emil Zátopek Ostrava Golden Marathon 2024 was held in Ostrava, to which representatives of our partner cities Košice/Katowice/Miskolc were invited to participate in the V4 marathon relay together with our city. The event was attended by the mayor Mgr. Jan Dohnal and the deputy mayor of Košice Mr. Lucie Gurbáľová.
September 2024
- The partner city of Dresden offered flood assistance and donated 30 dehumidifiers and two pumps to the city of Ostrava.
- At the invitation of the mayor of the partner city of Katowice, Mr. Marcin Krupa, a joint meeting of the city council members of both partner cities of Ostrava and Katowice was held in Katowice, focused on exchanging experiences in the field of economic, financial and cultural development of both cities. The program included an introduction to projects that the city of Katowice is planning or currently implementing in the near future, as well as a tour of successfully implemented projects directly in the field, such as the renovation of the Old Railway Station, the new city stadium, the International Congress Center, the Spodek Multifunctional Hall, or the Katowice Gaming and Technology Center.

- Representation of the statutory city of Ostrava at the 4th annual international event "Festival of Twin Cities", which took place in the partner city of Katowice. This year's edition was called "Bread Unites us" and was attended by the partner cities of Katowice - Cologne (Germany), Miskolc (Hungary), St. Etienne (France), Opava and Ostrava.
- At the invitation of the Mayor of the partner city of Katowice, Mr. Marcin Krupa, the representative of the statutory city of Ostrava, Deputy Mayor Andrea Hoffmannová, participated in the EuroScience Open Forum 2024 conference and the accompanying event of the 2nd European Talent Fair, the European job fair for young scientists, those interested in a scientific career and research. The aim of this initiative is to provide young people deciding on their careers, students, doctoral candidates and young researchers with a space to meet and discuss with representatives of science, higher education and the research and development sector.

- At the invitation of the Mayor of the partner city of Split, the Ostrava delegation participated in the celebrations organized in honor of the Day of the City of Split, annually held to honor the memory of St. Dominius, the founder of Split.
- The representative of the Ukrainian city of Dnipro, Oleksandr Sanzhara, Secretary of the City Council, participated in a working visit to the city of Ostrava. At the same time, the Agreement on Partnership Relations between the Statutory City of Ostrava and the City of Dnipro was signed, with the participation of the Mayor of Ostrava, Mgr. Jan Dohnal, and representatives of the Ukrainian Embassy in Prague, Head of the Diplomatic Mission of Ukraine in the Czech Republic – Vitaliy Usatyi, Council for Economic Affairs – Valeriy Demyanets, and 1st Secretary – Andrii Kolesnichenko.

- The Fairy Tale Festival – this year was the 8th year of this international event. Every year, approximately 400 children from Ostrava's kindergartens participate in this event, where they watch films related to a specific theme - this year, the theme was “My Dream”. Fairytale and educational workshops were held, where children could make various items related to the theme. The event included the announcement of an art competition in 5 age categories on the same theme of the entire festival – My Dream – and at the end of the event, on April 19, 2024, a ceremonial evaluation of this competition took place in the partner city of Katowice.
- The Statutory City of Ostrava received an invitation to participate in a 10-member relay team in the international event “Ultramarathon Košice – Miskolc 2024”, which was attended by runners from among the employees of the Ostrava City Hall and employees of the Ostrava Municipal Police, and they finished in 3rd place among the 10-member relay teams.

- A delegation from the partner city of Katowice, led by the Deputy Mayor, visited Ostrava. The purpose of the visit was to learn about the city's activities in the field of social and other services for seniors citizens. The Polish side also requested guide services for the planned visits of Katowice senior citizens to Ostrava in November and December, and it is expected that these visits will continue in 2024 as well.

- The partner city of Katowice organized the traditional event “Meeting of V4 Partner Cities” with the participation of representatives from the cities of Katowice, Košice, Miskolc, and Ostrava.

- At the invitation of the Mayor of the partner city of Split, a delegation from Ostrava took part in the program organized in celebration of the City of Split Day. On this occasion, a meeting was also held during which possible cooperation in the field of supporting startups and innovation was discussed.

- The Fairy Tale Festival – this year was the 7th year of this international event. Each year, approximately 400 children from kindergartens in Ostrava participate in this event, where they watch films related to a specific theme – this year’s theme was “Space”. Workshops were also organized, where children can make various items connected to the theme themselves.. The program also included an art competition held in five age categories, based on the overall festival theme, Space. On 21 May 2023, the festival concluded with a ceremonial evaluation of the competition, attended by the winners and guests from the partner city of Katowice.
- In the partner city of Katowice, the opening ceremony of the 7th edition of the OKO (Ostrava–Katowice–Opava) project took place, with the participation of representatives from all the three cities. The OKO project focuses on the artistic work of three artists, ensuring that each city is represented, and the venue changes every year. This year, the city of Katowice became a co-organizer of the project, while last year the event was held in Ostrava.
- The Statutory City of Ostrava received an offer to participate in a 10-member relay race at the international event “Ultramarathon Miskolc – Košice.” The event was attended by runners from among employees of the Ostrava City Hall and members of the Ostrava Municipal Police, and within the competition of relay teams from V4 partner cities, they achieved first place.

- A concert by the Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra Ostrava took place in the concert hall of the NOSPR in the partner city of Katowice, attended by a delegation from the city of Ostrava. On this occasion, a working meeting was also held with representatives of the City of Katowice to discuss further opportunities for cooperation in the field of culture.
- The Statutory City of Ostrava provided a financial donation of CZK 1,000,000 to the partner city of Gaziantep to cover costs associated with dealing with the aftermath of the earthquake on February 6, 2023.
February 2023
- In the partner city of Dresden, commemorative events marking the 78th anniversary of the destruction of Dresden were held, attended by a representative of the City of Ostrava. During the visit, a meeting also took place focusing on cooperation between German and Czech libraries.

- Ostrava welcomed a delegation from its partner city, Gaziantep. The leadership of both cities marked the tenth anniversary of the signing of the partnership agreement at the end of last year. The purpose of the Turkish delegation’s visit was also to familiarize themselves with modern public transport. They visited the Ostrava Transport Company, where they had the opportunity to see a company presentation as well as the charging arm for electric buses and CNG filling stations. At the same time, interest was confirmed in deepening mutual cooperation in areas such as culture, sports, gastronomy, public transport, and trade.

The opening of the 6th annual OKO exhibition took place in Ostrava, in the foyer of the Municipal District Office of Moravská Ostrava and Přívoz, with the participation of representatives of the partner cities of Ostrava and Katowice.The OKO project focuses on the artistic work of three artists, ensuring representation from each city (Ostrava–Katowice–Opava), and the venue changes every year. The organizer and author of the OKO exhibition was the Association of Polish Art Photographers. The event was held with the financial support of the partner cities of Katowice and Ostrava.

- Representatives of the partner cities of Katowice, Košice, and Miskolc took part in the traditional event “Meeting of V4 Partner Cities” (Katowice, Košice, Miskolc, Ostrava), which was held in Ostrava this year.
- At the invitation of the Mayor of the partner city of Katowice, a delegation from the City of Ostrava attended a friendly match between Baník Ostrava and GKS Katowice. The visit also included meetings with the leadership of the city of Katowice on the topics of sports financing, experiences with managing elementary schools, and support for sports clubs.

- A working meeting was held in the partner city of Katowice focused to address issues related to the development of transport infrastructure as well as environmental protection, in particular improving air quality in the territory of the Statutory City of Ostrava and the City of Katowice. At the same time, in connection with the 60th anniversary of the signing of the partnership agreement between the two cities, the possibility of updating the text of the existing partnership agreement was discussed.

- The partner city of Katowice organized an international urban cycling conference in Katowice to gain insights from other cities and best practices in cycling infrastructure and urban cycling in general. The Statutory City of Ostrava presented its successful bike-sharing project in Ostrava and the “To Work by Bike” competition.
- The city of Pittsburgh organized a commemorative event marking the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Pittsburgh Agreement on the creation of an independent Czechoslovak state, attended by a delegation from the City of Ostrava.

- A delegation from the City of Ostrava participated in the “Miskolc City Day” celebrations in the partner city.
- A delegation from the partner city of Dresden visited Ostrava with a focus on urban safety (including a tour of the Integrated Rescue System) and cooperation between the fire brigades of Ostrava and Dresden.
- In Katowice, an exhibition opening was held as part of the 9th “Circles of Art” Festival – featuring Iva Krupicová.
- "Museum Night" was held in Katowice – including the opening of the exhibition "Industrial and Poetic Ostrava in Engravings and Graphics from the Collections of the Ostrava Museum."

- In Katowice, at the headquarters of the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Polish Radio (NOSPR), a concert by the Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra Ostrava took place, attended by representatives of both partner cities.

- The 23rd International Swimming Championship “Twin City Cup” was held in the partner city of Miskolc, with the participation of swimmers from Ostrava. The swimmers formed an excellent team and, with its support, managed to bring home three valuable medals from Miskolc: one silver and two bronze.
November 2017
- The Janáček Conservatory in Ostrava hosted the "Musical Birth Certificate of the City of Ostrava." The Mayor of the partner city Katowice also accepted the invitation; Katowice presented Ostrava with a musical gift for its 750th anniversary: “Song for Ostrava”, which was performed at the beginning of the second part of the program. The composition was written by Paweł Tomaszewski, who also attended the event.

- The city of Katowice hosted one of the most important music events – the World Music Expo (WOMEX). Representatives of the partner cities, including Ostrava, attended the opening concert.

- From September 3 to 7, 2009, Volgograd hosted the traditional meeting of representatives of partner cities on the occasion of "City Day."

- A "Meeting of Four Partner Cities" took place in Miskolc between August 27 and 30, 2009, bringing together representatives from Katowice, Košice, Miskolc, and Ostrava.
- Representatives of the statutory city of Ostrava participated in the celebrations of the 140th anniversary of "City Day" and "Miner's Day" in Donetsk. The celebrations were held in the Ukrainian city from August 28 to 31, 2009.
- A two-day working meeting of representatives of both cities was held in Košice to address transport issues and to gain experience in preparing the city's application for the title of European Capital of Culture for Košice in 2013. The meeting took place on August 19 and 20, 2009.
