Dresden – the Saxon metropolis on the Elbe

For half a century, this German metropolis on the Elbe River has been a partner city of Ostrava. For most people, the mention of its name evokes the iconic, beautiful silhouette of the city center, the world-famous Old Masters Gallery with Raphael's Sistine Madonna, the magnificent treasures in the castle, steamboat rides, impressive Christmas markets, and the legendary Meissen porcelain manufactory. However, this is just the beginning of the many beautiful and interesting faces of this city and the surrounding region.

Historical and artistic collections are undoubtedly the pride of the city. But Dresden is also at the forefront of innovation and future technologies. The city is a pioneer in areas such as microchips, robotics, and 5G. The Technical University is one of the most renowned in all of Germany. Are you familiar with the Volkswagen Transparent Factory? Electric cars are already exclusively produced there, and you can get an up-close look at future mobility technologies. By the way, even history in Dresden is presented with the latest tools, like at the "Fortress 'Xperience'" exhibition, where visitors can explore the former fortress of Dresden through impressive audiovisual technology.

Did you know that the popular Christmas fairytale Three Wishes for Cinderella was filmed here? Specifically, at Moritzburg Castle, probably the most beautiful and photogenic castle in Saxony. Every winter, a very popular exhibition related to the fairytale takes place there. Just like the fairytale, Czech tourists love trips along the Elbe River, where they can cycle past vineyards, taste wine, explore fairy-tale castles, or simply wander through nature. The towns of Meissen, Radebeul, Torgau, and Pirna are full of attractions and invite you to visit.

Specifically for Czech tourists, the Polabí – Dresden Destination has launched a website in Czech where you can find information about attractive places in the city and the region:

www.visit-dresden.travel/cs

Even the ticket machines for public transportation "speak" Czech, and at many popular tourist spots, you will find guided tours in Czech, Czech audio guides, and promotional flyers.
