During the lively dialogue, the Mayor highlighted that Ostrava has undergone one of the most significant transformations in its history. The end of mining and steel production opened a new era in which environmental protection has become a top priority and air quality continues to improve. The discussion focused on the city’s strategic orientation toward modern technologies, research and development, and high-value industries.

As future experts in water and environmental management, the ENGEES students showed strong interest in the operation of critical urban infrastructure. Mayor Dohnal emphasized the deep connections between Ostrava and France in these areas, noting that key providers of energy and water services in the city—Veolia and Suez—are backed by strong French ownership. These partnerships ensure cutting-edge technologies and long-term sustainability for the entire region.

The meeting at the heart of Ostrava’s municipal administration confirmed the young engineers’ interest in Ostrava’s transformation experience. The visit served as an inspiring platform and reaffirmed that Ostrava stands as a successful example of ecological renewal—growing into a vibrant and green modern city.
