Fajna Zastávka: A New Community Space Receives City Support

At the heart of this project is a retired tram car, purchased by the local parish from Ostrava’s Public Transport Company. On select weekends and special days throughout the year, the tram serves free coffee and refreshments, creating a friendly spot for neighbors to meet. The new facilities will expand this space for community gatherings, cultural events, and leisure activities.
Behind the project is the Silesian Lily Association (Slezská lilie z. s.), a local non-profit that has long organized cultural and community activities in Kunčičky. The planned site will include a terrace with seating, a small stage for performances and talks, a firepit, play area for children, garden furniture, retractable awning, playground elements, and an outdoor screen for movie nights or presentations. The area will also be enhanced with new greenery, and both construction and upkeep will involve local volunteers and parish members.
“Fajna Zastávka is a wonderful example of how active residents can create meaningful public spaces, even in neighborhoods once seen as marginal,” said Deputy Mayor Lucie Baránková Vilamová, who oversees the Creating Spaces programme. “Through cooperation between the city, the community, and the parish, Kunčičky will gain a place that strengthens neighborhood ties and encourages people to meet and care for their surroundings.”
Project coordinator Mgr. Dariusz Sputo, chairman of the Silesian Lily Association, added:
“There aren’t many places in Kunčičky where people can meet and spend time together. We wanted to create a space open to everyone — from families with children to seniors. We believe Fajna Zastávka will become a natural center of community life.”
