Mošnov Strategic Industrial Zone to Welcome a New Investor
At their December meeting, the City Assembly approved the sale of land in the Mošnov Strategic Industrial Zone. On an area of about 20,000 m2, the Chinese company XZB will in two years build a new modern plant with fully automated operations employing at least 50 people, including at least 10 high value added jobs. The land has been sold for CZK 7.14 million excluding VAT.
Porsche Engineering Services opened its branch in Ostrava
Porsche Engineering Services (PES), a provider of development services, has officially opened its branch in Ostrava yesterday. It currently employs more than 20 people, which should increase to 50 by the end of 2020. The company will focus on research and development of current automotive trends such as electromobility, autonomous driving and smart mobility.
Ostrava supercomputing centre´s upgrade
The upgrade of HPC systems for the IT4Innovations National Supercomputing Centre will extend the Anselm cluster. The supercomputer will have a theoretical performance of more than 800 teraflops per second, making it more than 8 times as powerful as its predecessor commissioned in 2013. The computing capacities of the systems operated by IT4Innovations are available to the entire scientific community of the Czech Republic as part of grant competitions.
New automotive invention by VŠB-Technical University of Ostrava
VŠB - Technical University of Ostrava has offered a unique device measuring the thickness of car rims for commercial use. The invention of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering assures the quality of car wheels.
The Norwegian-Czech "Smart City" workshop took place in Ostrava
On Tuesday, December 11, the New City Hall hosted the 4th year of the Norwegian-Czech "smart city" workshop called "Strategy and Infrastructure of Smart Cities in the Czech Republic and Norway". The participants shared experience in clean mobility, sustainable urban energy, smart management, strategy building and data collection.
Ostrava believes in hydrogen future
The City of Ostrava and the Moravian-Silesian Region will support the use of hydrogen propulsion in public transport. Tomáš Macura, the Mayor of Ostrava, and Ivo Vondrák, the Governor of the Moravian-Silesian Region, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation, confirming the intention to develop this clean technology.
The Hájenka Residence
After successful residential projects the Pear Orchard Residence, Na Františku Resicdence, and the Holy Trinity Residence, the Hájenka Residence is the latest addition to residential development in the city district Slezská Ostrava.
Asental, the developer, plans to build four apartment buildings with a maximum height of three above-ground floors and attic, which will include studio to two-bedroom apartments. The developer expects that the Hájenka project will be particularly attractive for young people and families with children. The project should also increase the attractiveness of Silesian Ostrava. Asental is currently preparing land-use permit documentation.
First outlet center in northern Moravia
The Ostrava retail market has grown again. The newly opened Outlet Arena Moravia wants to cover the market of the Moravian-Silesian and Olomouc Regions, as well as that of Poland and Slovakia.
It is the first outlet centre in this region. The modern elliptical complex with several dozen shops is located on the outskirts of the city near the D1 motorway and the Hlučín highway. It has 800 parking spaces and is also accessible by public transport.
In the next two years, TK Development would like to complete the missing part of the ellipse and thus increase the number of retail units. It is also considering smaller independent buildings inside the complex.
Shared bikes will be back next year
Bicycle sharing has completed its first and very successful season in Ostrava. The daily rentals averaged almost 600 bikes. The bikes were used by more than 16,000 users, who have travelled the distance of 130,000 kilometers in less than seven months.
2020 IIHF World Junior Championship in Ostrava: Only a year!
The 2020 IIHF World Junior Championship will be held in Ostrava and Třinec from 26 December 2019 to 5 January 2020. This will be the third time for the Czech Republic to host the Championship; Ostrava and Frýdek-Místek hosted the championship in 1994.
International conference on strategic management
Faculty of Economics of the VŠB –Technical University of Ostrava organizes the 13th International Conference on Strategic Management and its Support by Information Systems (SMSIS). The discussion forum will take place from 21 to 22 May 2019. However, participants will be registered only by 1 February.
The Conference offers a platform for a multinational discussion between academics and professionals with interest in various fields, especially computer science and information and communication technology, mathematics and management science, and project management. The aim and purpose of the conference are to establish and maintain a forum for the exchange of knowledge, experience, and ideas, and to stimulate the creation of new research initiatives as well as theoretical and practical solutions and approaches. The conference provides a meeting place for researchers and professionals from Central, Eastern, and Western Europe, as well as from other parts of the world.
