Updated 02.09.2026 10:42 Ostrava has officially opened a new indoor shooting range complex on Plzeňská Street in the Hulváky district. The project, costing nearly CZK 153 million, has transformed a derelict brownfield into a state-of-the-art centre equipped with cutting-edge technology. It will provide facilities for the training of competitive shooters, host national and international competitions in a range of disciplines, and offer commercial shooting activities to the general public.

After a year-long break, Leoš Janáček Ostrava Airport will once again host Europe’s largest security showcase. Visitors to this year’s 26th edition of NATO Days in Ostrava & 17th Czech Air Force Days can look forward to extensive presentations by Czech and international armed forces, security services and emergency response units. One of the highlights will be a major presentation by the German Air Force, which is celebrating the 70th anniversary of its establishment this year.

Yesterday, Lucie Baránková Vilamová, Deputy Mayor of Ostrava, welcomed representatives of folk ensembles from the Czech Republic, Poland, Serbia, Hungary, Slovakia, India and Mexico at Ostrava’s City Hall. A total of 16 ensembles will take part in the 28th edition of the popular Folklore Without Borders festival, which gets underway today. Until Friday, 21 August, the festival will bring music and dance to five city districts. Ostrava’s own folk ensembles are also part of the rich festival programme.
