Road transport
The City of Ostrava is an important transport hub and the main intersection of the Moravian-Silesian Region. It is easily accessible from several directions. The city road network is more than a thousand kilometres in length.
The city area is crossed by an important international route – the I/11 – E75 (from Budapest to Gdansk). The R56 motorway (Ostrava/Frýdlant nad Ostravicí) is also important because it ensures direct access from the city to the Beskydy Mountains and other important road links. Ostrava is connected to the rest of Europe with the D1 highway, which join up with the D1 (Prague/Brno) and will join up the Polish A1 (Katovice/Gdansk/Helsinky). The D1 is part of the VI.B Trans European network (TEN) multimodal corridor going North – South, from Katowice – Bohumín – Ostrava – Brno – Vienna.
