City of Ostrava Announces Architectural Competition for New Bazaly Stadium
The city of Ostrava has launched an architectural competition for the design of a new football stadium at Bazaly. Recently, they invited applications for participation in the competition titled "New Bazaly." This milestone follows several months of preparation, beginning with the development of a feasibility study to assess the capacity of the new football stadium.

This was followed by the process of preparing the conditions for the architectural competition for this new landmark of the city, a stadium that will be exceptional in many respects.
The aim of the architectural competition is to find the most suitable design for a modern football stadium that meets contemporary operational requirements and trends. The city plans to construct a new modern football stadium that will have the capacity to host international matches, including those of the Czech national football team. Additionally, football will return to the site of its historical long-standing presence, which boasts a unique topography above the city center and excellent access via public transport. The club operated at Bazaly for 56 years, from 1959.
In its quest to build the best football stadium in the country, the city has opted for a so-called invited competition, where renowned and experienced design firms from around the world—who have proven experience in designing and constructing similar significant buildings—will be invited to participate. This choice ensures that the solutions proposed will be of high quality, timeless, and, above all, feasible. The competition jury also reflects the city's vision, comprising prominent and experienced personalities from the field of architecture, particularly from abroad.
The evaluation and assessment of the architectural proposals will take place in two phases. The deadline for submitting applications is set for 1:00 PM on January 24, 2025. The city council is expected to decide on the winning proposal in November 2025, with a presentation of the designs planned for December of the following year. If a winning architectural design is selected, it will be followed by a contract for the preparation of the construction documentation. Necessary surveys, refinement of the building design (its study), documentation for the construction permit, and related activities will need to be secured.
The new stadium is expected to be certified according to the BREEAM standard and to showcase the latest findings and technologies in sustainability and energy efficiency. The operational solutions and facilities will aim to allow everyone, regardless of age or disability, to experience football, as well as to facilitate free movement throughout the stadium. The building will include a museum for the football club, along with additional services, restaurants, fan shops, and opportunities for guided tours. Currently, the estimated cost is 2.5 billion Czech crowns, with a planned capacity of approximately 19,500 to 20,000 seated spectators.
