. The first garage was completed in August 2022, and construction of the second parking garage began in July 2023. The construction of both garages was carried out with careful consideration of the prior renovation of the Cultural House Poklad, which is a listed cultural monument and a unique example of 1950s architecture. From the outset, it was clear that the parking structures needed to reflect this reality and should not disrupt the aesthetic of the area.
"The second parking garage also meets all the requirements we set for the entire project," noted Deputy Mayor Břetislav Riger, adding: "It is a two-story building with both levels open, equipped with a new, more advanced parking system that is ticketless and cashless. We started installing this parking system in several facilities across the city last year."
The construction of the second parking garage at the cultural house in Poruba expanded parking options in the city. Last year, a parking garage with 465 spaces was opened near the Ostrava City Hospital. Another with 195 spaces was opened in 2023 near the zoo. Additionally, the city has created a public underground parking lot with 155 new parking spaces beneath one of the buildings of the City Campus. A unified parking system will be installed in these facilities in 2024.
The total cost of the construction amounts to 44.5 million CZK. The project's design was developed by Technoprojekt a.s., and the contractor for the construction was IPS Třinec a.s. As noted by the mayor of the Poruba district, Lucie Baránková Vilamová, the overall appearance of the area surrounding the frequently visited Poklad has also changed: "I am pleased that the surroundings of the Cultural House Poklad are finally complete and have received an attractive new look. We followed up with improvements to the parks on both sides of the Poklad. While the first park, featuring a fountain by Vladislav Gajda, serves for relaxation, the second park, is intended for active leisure. We completed it in the autumn of last year, and visitors will find trampolines, a basketball hoop, ping-pong tables, and various seating areas. This location is now among the most beautiful and sought-after places in Poruba." The revitalization of the park was the responsibility of the Poruba district, the financial costs were shared with the Ostrava Municipality.
