First headliners of Colours of Ostrava have been announced
The eighteenth year of Colours of Ostrava, the popular multi-genre music festival, one of the biggest music events in Central Europe, will take place from 17th to 20th July 2019 in the industrial area of Ostrava's Dolní Vítkovice. The headliners include The Cure and Florence and The Machine.
Colours of Ostrava will also offer the Kronos Quartet from the U.S. For nearly fifty years, the Kronos Quartet have defied the idea that such ensembles should play classical music in suits. Their repertoire ranges from modern classical music to experimental avant-garde, minimalism, folk and rock to world music and their own timeless pieces. The festival will also present Hiromi Uehara, one of the most impressive contemporary jazz pianists. Fusing jazz with classical music, rock and other genres with incredible ease, the composer refuses to define her music. Visitors can also look forward to the trumpet player Paolo Fresa from Sardinia and musician Shabak Hutchings and his band Sons of Kemet.
Since 2012, Colours of Ostrava has taken place in the breath-taking industrial site of Lower Vítkovice – the former metalworks and mines. Last year, it offered over 450 program items on 21 indoor and outdoor stages – concerts, Meltingpot discussions, theatrical performances, films, workshops and art activities.
