The original facility dating back to the 1940s, which served as a military shooting range it is still in use despite its poor technical condition.

"The new facility is designed for shooting sports such as shooting with rifles, pistols, and small-caliber weapons at a maximum distance of 50 meters, as well as airgun shooting at a maximum of 10 meters. The shooting rooms will feature complete technological and target equipment for these types of shooting, including standard ventilation and lighting. The shooting range will also include a weapon rental/checkout area, and a secure room for storing weapons and ammunition," explains Jan Dohnal, the mayor of the city, who is also responsible for sports.

Construction will take place over 80 weeks, with costs amounting to 138,685,000 CZK excluding VAT. The contractor is JTA s.r.o. "This indoor shooting range brings a significant advantage – shooters will be able to use it year-round, seven days a week. On weekends, the range will also host shooting competitions. I would also like to add that, given that this is an indoor shooting range, its operation will not disturb the surrounding area," clarified Deputy Mayor Břetislav Riger.

Sport shooting is a lesser-known sport to the public. Currently, there is only one shooting range in the entire Czech Republic that resembles those abroad where year-round training and international competitions can take place, and that is in Plzeň. Now, a quality shooting infrastructure will be established in Ostrava, and our region will be included in the calendar of international shooting competitions.

Thanks to this project, a space with quality conditions for preparing young, talented athletes will be created in our region. It will also allow more members of shooting clubs to participate, which is currently not possible under the limited conditions of individual clubs. At the same time, the new facility will attract foreign athletes and help bring the shooting sport closer to the public.
